Tony Richardson Counselling

“Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health.” - Bessel van der Kolk

"We can mistake the need to change as becoming someone new, when in fact it's about finding the authentic you again. The version of you who was always there, the version that can just be, play, that can relinquish the burdens placed there by others"

A brief introduction...

Hi, I'm Tony and I offer one-to-one counselling sessions to people who need a confidential, space to explore aspects of their lives which are having an impact, and to find a path forward.

I'm an integrative therapist, which means I bring a range of different counselling theories and practices into every session and use these to support you when we work together.

It's my role to make this space as safe as I can for you to share your experience, free of judgement.

I’m aware that getting through that door isn’t easy. Some people can take weeks, months, even years of thinking about this before taking the necessary steps to book in. Some people never do it.

All too often it can come from a sense knowing something just isn’t quite right, and a belief that our lives can be better. Other times it can be realising that we’ve suddenly found the limitations of our own resilience, that we’ve crossed that line and feel it’s time to understand how we got here, and how to get back.

For some, starting counselling can be the beginning of choosing to explore what the actual issue is, why we show up in the world; in relationships, in the way we do. Choosing to do this in a safe, confidential space; a place of curiosity not judgement; a place to share and honour your story, and to explore whether the narrative you’ve carried of yourself for so long is actually true. To find the authentic version of ourselves.

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” - Viktor Frankl
